Not in a white coat for a change: virologist Christian Drosten at the German Radio Prize

The virologist Christian Drosten was awarded the special prize of the German Radio Prize for his contribution to the NDR info podcast "Coronavirus Update".
The head of virology at the Berlin Charité was able to "explain complex scientific and epidemiological relationships in a generally understandable way," said the reasoning of the special award advisory board.
Podcast viewed 60 million times since February
The 48-year-old professor took the audience with the podcast "on an exciting journey of discovery about the virus".
Drosten declared popular without becoming populist, corrected himself on the basis of new findings and insisted on the separation between politics and science.

The podcast "Coronavirus Update" is produced by NDR Info and has been published since the end of February.
According to the NDR, the more than 50 episodes have already been viewed more than 60 million times.
The German Radio Prize also honors the country's best radio producers in ten categories.
The undoped prizes are awarded in the categories of best interview, best podcast, best report, best comedy, best program, best moderation, best newcomer, best innovation in the morning, best program action and best news and information format.
The awards were presented on Thursday evening in Hamburg.
