(ANSA) - BEIJING, 11 SEPTEMBER - Hong Kong will soon begin the phase of clinical tests for the first vaccine in the form of a nasal spray against Covid-19: Hong Kong University, which developed the substance, announced it after the green light of the Chinese authorities together with Xiamen University and Wantai University of Beijing Pharmaceutical Biology.
Microbiologist Yuen Kwok-yung told Hong Kong media that clinical trials are expected to begin in November and that the university has already received € 2.1 million in funding, while the search for 100 healthy people to be recruited for testing has begun.
The clinical trial of the spray will consist of three phases and, from the launch of the first, it will take at least a year before the vaccine can be used.
The substance is the first vaccine in the form of a nasal spray to have obtained clinical trial approval from the Chinese National Medical Products Administration to date.
