The broken flagpole, which killed a 23-year-old on Kiel's town hall square at the beginning of August, has been shown to have a weak material.

The city administration announced that the report had been available to the police since Thursday morning.

You then immediately had five flagpoles of the same design removed from the town hall square.

The Kieler Woche area was closed for one and a half hours.

On her first day of training as a municipal employee, the 23-year-old wanted to pose for a photo on the Rathausplatz in Kiel with 50 other new trainees on August 3rd.

For an unexplained cause, a truck maneuvered on the edge of the square and hit the flagpole, which broke off and killed the 23-year-old.

Flagpoles have been standing on Rathausplatz since 1972, and they have been regularly replaced.

The mast, which broke off on August 3, was last changed five years ago, according to the city.

The investigations by the Kiel public prosecutor's office on suspicion of negligent homicide against the 60-year-old driver of the truck and his 73-year-old passenger have not yet been concluded.

The material weakness of the mast could have an impact on the criminal assessment of the accident, said Chief Prosecutor Michael Bimler.

The driver of the 7.5-tonner had hit the mast when maneuvering backwards.
