The masks are killing the "make-up" market, down 17% since the beginning of the year.
But lipstick sales suffer most of all, which continue to drop in France due to the obligation to wear masks even outdoors.
In the first 8 months of the year, sales of cosmetics fell 16.9% overall, according to the Nielsen institute.
Until the start of the lockdown, sales were stable but fell by 53.4% between March and May.
And despite the reopening, the sector has recorded a further decline of 6.3% since May.
For France Televisions, analyst Mathilde Lion explains that with the crisis there is no desire to celebrate or wear make-up, "evenings at restaurants are rare, outings are only with a few people, marriages postponed or canceled".
Facial products such as foundation and face creams have dropped by 10% in recent weeks in France.
Sales of lipstick, impossible to use without dirtying the mask you are wearing, dropped by as much as 75% during the lockdown and have since continued to drop by a further 26.4%.
At the other extreme, eye makeup sales, which remain off the matte, have regained strength: mascara, eyeshadow and eye liner posted 0.2% more than last year.
