Criminals stole cars worth almost 280 million euros in Germany last year.

This emerges from the annual vehicle theft report of the General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV), which was presented this Thursday.

The number of stolen vehicles fell by five percent to around 14,300 compared to the previous year.

The damage remained high.

SUVs, among other things, were stolen particularly often.

According to the knowledge of German insurers, thieves have recently stolen fewer new cars, but are more interested in cars that are around two to three years old.

The GDV explains this with the fact that manufacturers are making their keyless opening and starting technology based on radio chips increasingly safer.

Older systems are easier to manipulate.
