found out how the German holidaymakers
fared

Three out of four users were on vacation this summer despite the ongoing pandemic

The big winner is Germany - more than 45 percent of those surveyed stated that they had spent their summer vacation in their own country.
An evaluation of the booking portal HomeToGo has already shown that interest in travel within Germany has increased enormously.
Almost half (
48 percent
) enjoyed the sun on the beach, almost one in three (32 percent) went on a city trip, closely followed by nature lovers - one in four (25 percent) spent their vacation in the mountains.

The car is by far the Germans' preferred mode of transport this year.
A full
72 percent
said they
had traveled on vacation by car.
In spite of everything, second place was taken by aircraft with almost 27 percent.

Study with surprising results.
Surprising: Despite Corona, cancellations and monetary losses are low
Against all odds, there
were very few cancellations
.
Almost 64 percent of those surveyed stated that their trip had not been canceled and could take place as planned.
Parts of the trip were canceled in just under 11 percent, while 26 percent were unable to take the trip.
A good 71 percent of Germans stated that they had not lost any money due to rebooking or cancellations.
Almost one in ten lost up to 200 euros
, eight percent of those surveyed lost between 200 and 400 euros.
Only one fifth received a voucher or is currently waiting for a refund.
Travel plans of the Germans: Positive outlook for the rest of the vacation year 2020
More than one in two (54 percent) are planning another trip this year -
78 percent
would like to do this in September or October.

The availability of travel warnings is limited and the travel industry has to come up with something to keep customers happy.
For example, our team is looking for unusual Airbnbs with their own spa, special hiking routes or exciting leisure experiences, ”says Auggenthaler.
32 percent of users who no longer want to travel in 2020 said they wanted to take a break at the beginning of 2021, while the remaining 68 percent do not plan to travel before next spring.
