The complaints committee of the German Press Council has issued a complaint that concerns a "picture" report on a corona study.
In the "Bild" article "Questionable methods: Drosten study on infectious children grossly wrong", the complaints committee found several serious violations of journalistic due diligence according to Section 2 of the Press Code, according to a press council statement.
In the opinion of the committee members, the formulation that the study was "grossly incorrect" is not covered by the expert opinions quoted in the text.
The article also does not mention that it was a pre-publication, the results of which had not yet been verified by experts.

In addition, "Bild" cited the study improperly and claimed that children "can" be as contagious as adults, which in the English-language original was worded much more vaguely as "could".
The complaints committee also found that the one hour period that the editorial staff had given virologist Christian Drosten to comment was too short.
In addition, the article assumed that Drosten might have suppressed facts.
The German Press Council issued a total of twelve reprimands between September 8 and 10.
They concern, among other things, the portal "Der Westen", which is accused of "massive clickbaiting", the regional newspaper "Nordkurier", which is reprimanded for detailed descriptions of sexual abuse, as well as in four other cases "Bild" and "Bild.de".
