We have been wondering for years if it still makes sense to continue talking about the song of the summer in the age of
streaming
.
Before, it was common to wait for an artist to release an album every two years, but today there are often new songs on YouTube and Spotify every month, which sometimes makes it more difficult for them to reach a general audience.
As an example, the song most listened to on Spotify during the summer in Spain has been
La Jeepeta (Remix)

It has added more than 380 million views on the platform worldwide and has been the most listened to from Spain (30 million) and from Mexico, to which must be added the more than 300 million on YouTube.

These artists achieve very high numbers of views on Spotify and YouTube, but they may not be as well known by the general public, as they do not appear as much on television and other more traditional media.
As we mentioned, the music market has changed a lot in recent years.
On the one hand, and as we explained in this article, it is increasingly difficult to find a “song of the summer”.

Songs burn much faster than before, because competition on digital platforms is chaotic.

An example of this lesser impact on the public despite his influence and success is Ed Sheeran.
It cannot be said that he is precisely unknown, having sold more than 20 million albums and added 45 million subscribers on YouTube.
But the truth is that what is probably the most successful male artist of the decade does not have the same fame as comparable artists of years ago, such as Madonna or George Michael.
Sheeran benefits from being a niche artist: he lives his success among a smaller consumer profile (the youngest), but at the same time he is much more influential among that group of followers.
And something similar happens to artists like Ozuna or Juan Magán, who have their audience mainly on
streaming
platforms
and not so much on radio and television.
