Unfortunately, the Munich Oktoberfest 2020 cannot take place due to Corona.

Bring that Oktoberfest feeling home with our recipes and tips!

“O'zapft is!” - unfortunately not this time.

Many residents of Munich, Bavaria and tourists from all over the world will sorely miss it this year:

Unfortunately, the

largest folk festival in the world

will not take place in 2020 - the first time since 1949!

To comfort yourself, just bring the culinary Oktoberfest home with you:

Chicken

*,

Leberkas, sausage salad and Co.

taste delicious even

when they are

homemade.

So you also have a solid basis for the Maß beer, which should not be missing on an Oktoberfest evening at home.

Brotzeitbrettl with Obatzter: Cold platter in Bavarian

Let's start with a classic that simply succeeds without having to stand tall in the kitchen.

For a

hearty snack you

need - depending on the number of people - a few slices of good bread, for example a farmer's bread made from rye sourdough.

You can brush the bread with butter or lard.

Pretzels also taste delicious.

You can find them in the freezer and bake them fresh at home.

What should not be missing, of course:

Obatzter or Obatzda

.

You can buy it ready-made in Bavaria, but it tastes much better when you make it yourself!

To do this, peel and dice an

onion

.

Mash a

camembert

(300 g) with a fork.

Add 1 teaspoon of ground

caraway seeds

and 2 teaspoons of sweet

paprika powder

.

Mix everything into a creamy mass and season with

salt

,

pepper

and hot

paprika powder

.

You can decorate the Obatzda with chopped

chives

.

Various spicy

cheeses

, for example mountain cheese or Allgäu Emmentaler, good

bacon and air-dried salami

such as chimney-

root, belong on an authentic snack

board.

Radishes

, small

pickled cucumbers

and

tomatoes

serve as a vegetable side dish and decoration at the same time

.

Of course, mustard shouldn't be missing either.

Wiesn knowledge: Why does the pretzel actually have a knot?

Be sure to eat veal sausage breakfast before twelve o'clock

If you want to whitewash a Bavarian, you only eat white sausage in the evening.

The

tradition

dictates namely that it is a

noon Weißwurstfrühstück only until noon

there.

Why actually?

One theory is that the meat in the sausages used to be raw and since there were no refrigerators, the meat had to be eaten until noon before it went bad.

Even if white sausages can be scalded and chilled today, this tradition has been preserved.

Of course

,

there is

beer, sweet mustard and pretzels with

the white sausage

.

(By the way, you come out as an outsider when you say "pretzel".) The skin has to be

removed

from the sausage: either in the classic

way

,

i.e. sucking

out the inside, or you cut the sausage lengthways and peel the inside out.

For the sweet ones: make yeast dumplings with poppy seed butter yourself

As a vegetarian main meal or as a

dessert to share

: yeast dumplings are a classic and always go down well.

For delicious yeast dumplings with poppy seeds you need the following

ingredients

:

  • 15 g fresh yeast

  • 100 ml of warm milk

  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar

  • 250 g flour

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 1 egg (size M)

  • 80 g plum jam

  • 100 g butter

  • 50 g of ground poppy seeds

How to prepare the yeast dumplings with poppy seed butter:

  • In a bowl, stir the crumbled yeast with the milk and a teaspoon of vanilla sugar.

  • In a bowl, mix the flour with the salt and the remaining vanilla sugar.

  • Now add the yeast-milk mixture and the egg and knead everything into a smooth dough.

  • Cover the bowl with a tea towel and put it in a warm place for an hour.

The dough should then be about twice as big.

  • Eight the dough, form round pieces from it and press them flat with floured hands.

  • Put some plum jam in the middle and fold the dough over it.

    Carefully shape round dumplings.

  • Place the dumplings side by side on a board and cover and let them rest for another 15 minutes.

  • Now bring a large saucepan with 2 liters of water to the boil that you lightly salt.

  • Set the heat to a low level (the water must not boil) and put the dumplings in the water.

Cover and cook for about 20 minutes.

    Do not remove the lid!

  • Meanwhile, let the butter melt in a pan and turn it lightly brown.

  • Mix in the poppy seeds and let them roast for a few minutes while stirring.

  • Now you can get the dumplings out of the water with a slotted spoon, place 2 dumplings in a deep plate and drizzle the poppy seed butter over them.
