The Corona crisis thwarted the bill for many travelers.
But when do customers get their money back for the vacation they have booked?
A court surprises with its verdict
The
corona crisis
has severely restricted travel around the world.
Many travelers have
to cancel
their booked
vacation
due to Corona.
A judgment at the Frankfurt district court now strengthens consumers.
Kassel - Enjoying a delicious
pizza
in Rome, surfing the beach in Hawaii or having an après-ski party in Austria: Germans had to forego vacation trips for weeks.
The
coronavirus
had paralyzed global travel.
In mid-June, the Federal Foreign Office relaxed the
travel warning
for 31 European countries.
But the
corona
numbers are rising again in many countries.
The Federal Foreign Office is therefore issuing new travel warnings.
Corona crisis: Customers can often only cancel their vacation free of charge if they have received travel warnings
Many
vacationers are
now asking themselves
: Can I cancel my booked trip abroad and will I get my
money
back?
Basically: Customers can
cancel
a
package tour
free of charge if “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances arise” at or in the immediate vicinity, writes
Stiftung Warentest
.
Travel warnings from the
Foreign Office
are an indication of extraordinary circumstances
.
This means: If there is a current travel warning for vacation countries, vacationers can cancel their package tours free of charge.
Then vacationers get their
money
back.
Due to the increased number of # Covid19 infections, the #travel warning that already applies to parts of #Spain was expanded today.

However, despite
Corona,
there is
currently no travel warning for most countries in Europe.
So there is less chance that holidaymakers their
money
reimbursed for travel expenses to European countries.
Vacation and Corona: judgment at the Frankfurt district court strengthens consumers
But a recently pronounced judgment at the district court in Frankfurt is now strengthening consumers: A man had canceled his planned
vacation
in the Gulf of Naples
in March
because of the
corona
crisis, although there was no travel warning for the Italian region at the time.
The tour operator had insisted on some of the costs.
The court agreed with the plaintiff.
The reason: A travel warning for the area is not necessary.
A certain probability is sufficient for the coronavirus to spread in a hazardous manner.
That was
the case for all of Italy
at the time of the
trip cancellation
.
The judgment is final.
Corona: Plaintiff gets money back for canceled vacation
With regard to the
Corona
crisis, it depends on when the traveler resigned and whether the conditions at the holiday destination at that time were already to be qualified as extraordinary circumstances, the court justifies its judgment.
Basically, no overly strict requirements should be placed on the traveler’s presentation.
The plaintiff got his
money
back
from the tour operator
.
