According to figures released Thursday by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which tracks sales of recorded music in the United States, vinyl purchases were higher than those of CDs in the first half.
On the physical market, sales of LP and 45 rpm LPs thus reached 232.1 million dollars, while those of CDs (“Compact Discs”) only represented 130 million dollars. dollars.
It is not so much vinyl sales that have soared, since they only increased by 3.6% in value and 2.3% in volume (corresponding to 8.8 million vinyl records sold), but rather those of CDs which collapsed by 47.6% in value (- 47.6% in volume or 10.2 million CDs).
Last year, over the same period, CD sales stood at $ 248 million, compared to $ 224 million for vinyl records.
