Does a crocodile swim in the strut?
Because of the suspicion of reptiles, a dead chicken will still hang on the river at the weekend.
The crocodile has not yet been seen.
"The chicken is still hanging, there are no photos," said the district office of the Kyffhäuserkreis in Sondershausen.
With the dead feathered animal on a string, those responsible have been trying to lure the crocodile in front of a photo trap for a few days.
Every evening the chicken is taken down and hung up again in the morning to prevent another predator - such as a fox or a raccoon - from tampering with it during the night.
"Not that someone covers our tracks," said a spokeswoman.
The river should also remain closed.
At the end of August, several witnesses in Saxony-Anhalt stated that they had seen a crocodile in the Unstrut.
A large manhunt followed, including a bathing ban in the area, the water police were on duty, the fire brigade, the veterinary office.
In the end, however, the search was stopped without any results.
Less than a week ago, a horse owner said she had seen a crocodile on the Unstrut near Schönewerda in Thuringia.
Then the river bank was searched again.
The county issued a public warning.
But the search was unsuccessful.
