On the sidelines of the Lower Saxony AfD state party convention, clashes between police officers and demonstrators broke out in Braunschweig.
Hundreds of people had blocked routes to the conference venue on the outskirts.
Suspected party conference participants were aggressively attacked by masked people.
The police said there were physical attacks on delegates and officials.
The police used pepper spray and batons.
Mounted police officers were also on duty.
A helicopter was also in the air to help.
The meeting in the Brunswick Millennium Hall took place after all, with a delay.
