(ANSA) - MILAN, 12 SEPTEMBER - What was taken for granted before the Covid epidemic today is not and so is the simple eye-catching of the choir and the entire Scala orchestra, deployed on the stage for Beethoven's Ninth which marks the reopening of the theater, after the lockdown it has something extraordinary.

Which becomes even more so at the first live sound.

It is "a kiss from the whole world" the Hymn to Joy that concludes the Ninth, an invitation to brotherhood composed by Friedrich Schiller not by chance chosen as the European Union Hymn, and not by chance chosen by La Scala to reopen its deaths after the epidemic coronavirus and a trial season of mini-concerts last July.

It is in fact a message of hope and a new start.

"Welcome back", Riccardo Chailly, who is its musical director, said with simplicity on behalf of the theater, with the hope that this is "a sign to alleviate the great pain that we have all experienced in these six months".

Special thanks go to the health workers to whom this evening is dedicated to which they decided to be present, among others, the president of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Casellati, the governor Attilio Fontana, the prefect Renato Saccone, the councilor Giulio Gallera, the former premier Mario Monti.

"This is a return to gradual normality" commented Fontana.

Despite the distancing, we can speak of a full house with 670 spectators (before Covid the capacity was over two thousand seats) for this first performance of the four in the program, ended with warm applause.

At the last, on 17 September, the Head of State Sergio Mattarella and the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will sit alongside.
