Rare record of a blue whale off the coast of Sydney (seansperception)

A photographer was left speechless after becoming the first to see a blue whale, from the giant whale family, off the coast of Australia.

The photographer, who can be found on Instagram under the name seansperception, was watching a group of whales in Sydney, last month, when he suddenly saw the largest whale in the world, and it caught him by surprise.

He shared the picture of the whale on Instagram and wrote: "I was left speechless, but on the other hand can also say a million words at a time. The biggest animal on earth. Put things in perspective: they grow to 30 meters, their tongue weighs like an elephant, "And their heart is the size of a car. I feel like I won the lottery."

Well where do I start;

?

I'm speechless but could blurt out a million things at the same time?

Yesterday watching a lot of humpbacks travel south in my usual spot at Maroubra, one of the great wonders of the magical ocean appeared in-front of me?

A BLUE WHALE?

??

THE LARGEST LIVING ANIMAL ON PLANET EARTH?

Although so large they are incredibly hard to ever see especially on the east coast on Australia To put their size into perspective;

they grow to around 30metres, their tongue weights the same as an elephant & their heart is the size of a car!

Completely mesmerized & feel like I've hit the Jackpot?

Hope you enjoy as much as I still am❤️ ??

Although it is such a large animal, the blue whale is rarely seen, especially off the east coast of Australia.

The project manager for wildlife in New South Wales National Park, Andrew Marshall, said the sight is extremely rare, so extreme, that it is the first documentation that can be approved in the entire state.

"The blue whale is the largest animal on the planet, but despite its size, it could pass off the coast of Sydney without anyone seeing," Marshall said. "Blue whales are largely invisible even to whale hunters and researchers around the world. They are not usually seen because They like to live in the depths of the sea, they are very scattered in different areas and we have very little information about their way of life. "

Marshall added: "We have unofficial records of blue whales near Sydney from 2002 and 2013, but the last picture is the first happy case on our shores. Such photographs are very important, they improve our understanding of where they live, and help us think. How can we protect them? "

The blue whale feeds mainly on krill and is the heaviest known animal to ever exist on Earth - reaching up to 34 meters in length and weighing over 170 tons.

By comparison, the largest terrestrial creature is the African savannah elephant, which reaches "only" a length of up to 7.3 meters, a height of up to four meters and a maximum weight of nine tons.

According to Wikipedia, blue whales were common until the early 20th century in most of the oceans on Earth.

In the first 40 years of that century the population was fatally damaged as a result of uncontrolled whaling, and almost reached its final extinction.

The danger of extinction decreased, but did not disappear, with the outlaw hunting of blue whales by the international community in 1966. A 2002 report estimates the size of the global population at 12,000 to 15,000 individuals and the blue whale is now classified as an endangered species.
