(ANSA) - LESBOS, SEPTEMBER 13 - About 50 asylum seekers have settled in the new camp in Lesbos which will host thousands homeless after a fire destroyed the one in Moria.
However, there are many who ask to leave the island.
"In five days the operation will be completed. All will be accommodated in the new camp", assured the Greek minister for migration, Notis Mitarachi, who has been visiting the island for two days to coordinate the work.
Located three kilometers from the port of Mytilene, the capital of Lesbos, the camp "will be closed during the night for security reasons", reads a statement from the ministry.
According to Mitarachi, "200 people" among the asylum seekers could be positive for Covid and therefore there are severe restrictions on the exits of migrants from the new camp.
Thousands of families live on the road, on the sidewalks, in the fields, after gigantic fires destroyed the Moria camp, where 13,000 people lived.
