This is how you will take advantage of what is left of this shocking year

Let's not lie to ourselves, the last year has not been good.

The corona made us eat more, exercise less and drink more alcohol.

And that’s before we talked about the depression and anxiety that took over us all.

But hey, there's another week left

The past year has been one of the hardest years we have known here.

An epidemic is raging outside, a burning hatred is consuming us from within, and in the middle we are all trying to build ourselves some sane routine (until the next closure).

We all hope that next year will be better, that they will find a vaccine or cure for Corona, that the numbers of patients here have dropped and that our children will be able to learn as children should, but unfortunately there are no guarantees that this will happen.

And anyway, we have another full week for the current year, so we decided to lower expectations from next year and try to improve on what's left.

Here are some small changes that will make this week better.

Do sports.

Some

If you're one of those people who's not doing sports, or did until the Corona broke out and now can't get back into a training routine, take this coming week and try to move around a bit.

Assuring yourself that next year you will get back in shape or enroll in this institute is great, but it usually does not happen.

The most effective way to make a change is to make it right now.

So in the coming week, set yourself a realistic goal - a walk twice a week or a short YouTube workout of a few minutes, and prove to yourself that when you want you can.

System recommendation.

And if life is too busy for that too, and you are looking for one exercise with a perfect cost-benefit ratio, we recommend one minute of plank every night.

The advantage of this exercise is that it strengthens and sculpts the deeper abdominal muscles, the ones that help us hold the abdomen in, and at the same time also strengthens the muscles that give the best support to the lower back.

And of course - it is short, static and does not require special equipment.

After excelling this week, the decision to return to fitness next year will become more practical.

Stop for a moment and breathe

We thought of writing in this intermediate heading "meditation," but this word tends to arouse opposition in many people.

We are not recommending you here to go to an ashram in the desert or a workshop of silence, but to initiated breaks during your day where you will truly breathe.

It may surprise you, but most of us do not, and in a time of growing health and economic anxiety - it is no less necessary.

Initiated break.

So how do you meditate without sitting cross-legged and closing your eyes?

You can stay in bed in the morning for a quarter of an hour - stretch and sort out your thoughts before you start the day.

You can also take short one-minute breaks during the work day and just breathe - deep, slow and calm.

And for this breath it is worth lingering for a moment: long, deep breaths reduce anxiety and help calm thoughts.

If you feel the pressure begin to take command, try to focus on your breathing for a while.

Contrary to what many people think of meditation, at this time it is not worth trying to "think of nothing" because it usually leads to the opposite result.

Just let the thoughts flow through your head, without struggling with them and let yourself enjoy the moment.

Go to bed at noon

Most of us work from home for at least part of the week, so why not take advantage of this time for a short nap to recharge your batteries?

A nap in the middle of the day has a variety of health benefits - it can improve memory, enhance learning abilities, sharpen concentration and strengthen motor abilities.

Experts estimate that a 20-minute sleep will allow you to enjoy these health benefits, and if you work in a role that requires creative thinking, a 45-minute sleep may actually be better for you.

In any case, it is not recommended to sleep at noon for more than an hour and a half.

Go to the sea, at least twice

For the soul, and the sun.

And if not to the sea - then for a hike in nature, the main thing is that you go outside (to a place that is not crowded, because Corona is still) and let the fresh air and nature give you back your strength.

Studies have found that a visit to the sea helps reduce stress and anxiety, fight inflammation, heal faster from injuries and cleanse toxins.

Swimming in the sea will also help improve heart health more effectively than other sports and walking on the sand will strengthen the leg muscles.

And that's before we start talking about sun exposure (in a controlled way and with a sunscreen of course), which will provide more than enough vitamin D to contribute to the health of the body.

Connect to your feelings

There is something impressive in the attempt of older people to broadcast business as usual even when everything is terribly difficult, but the truth is that it is simply ineffective.

An Israeli study published a few years ago and resonated in many media outlets around the world, states that when we feel negative emotions - it is important that we feel them, deal with them and not repress them.

According to the researchers, happiness is a general satisfaction from life and not a lack of negative feelings.

Previous studies have also found that suppressing negative emotions can intensify them even more in the long run, so it is important that you do not fight them or be afraid of them - but give them their place.

Sometimes it's hard to see, but even negative emotions are meant to keep you going and contribute to the rest of your life.
