The decision was made due to a large workload in the wards • Hospital director: "It is better to transfer critically ill patients to the center, rather than treat them by staff who have been instructed in case of failure"

The director of the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, Prof. Masad Barhum, announced today (Monday) that he has decided to stop admitting more Corona patients due to the heavy workload in the Corona wards and intensive care units, especially with regard to critically ill and respiratory patients.

Currently, 85 verified patients are hospitalized in the three corona wards of the hospital, of whom 30 are in critical condition, three of whom are resuscitated.

The condition of 27 other patients is moderate and the rest is mild.

The Galilee Medical Center claims that the problem is not just corona patients.

The fact that the medical center has 30 serious patients in the general and respiratory intensive care unit as well as other patients in pediatric intensive care, neurosurgical and cardiac, makes it difficult for the medical staff to function.

"The amount of skilled staff at my disposal that can treat severe corona patients is extremely small," explains Prof. Barhum.

"The options I had were to move more serious patients to the center of the country to be treated by skilled staff or we would take care of them by staff we trained. The teams we trained were trained in case the whole system is in a state of inadequacy. Thank God, that's not the case right now. A reason I will treat difficult and respiratory patients by unskilled staff, if I can move them to the center. I do a situation assessment every morning and every evening, and currently I have decided not to transfer patients. "There is enough skilled staff for difficult and respiratory patients, so I ordered an end to the absorption of Corona patients."

It should be noted that there are three corona wards at the Galilee Medical Center: a geriatric crown ward (the first and oldest ward), a respirator crown (in the Rehabilitation Division) and a first crown.

Occupancy in them, according to data from the Ministry of Health as of this morning, is 135 percent.

There are currently only three internal medicine departments in the medical center.

Of the other three inpatient wards, there are two wards undergoing renovations to convert them to corona wards, and a ward that has recently become a ward dedicated to viral patients, filling up very quickly.
