Google is committed to using 'carbon-free' energy, without carbon emissions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by 2030. This was announced by the company's CEO, Sundar Pichai, in an official post.

"Last week many of us woke up to an orange sky in Northern California due to the continuing wildfires. The science is clear, the world must take action now to avoid the worst consequences of climate change," Pichai adds. Google's environmental commitment will generate "over 20,000 new jobs in clean energy and associated sectors, in the US and around the world, by 2025".

As of today, Google is the 1st major company to eliminate our entire carbon legacy, including before we became carbon neutral in 2007. We're also proud that by 2030, we aim to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy in our data centers & campuses worldwide.

"Since 2017 we have made our total electricity consumption coincide with 100% renewable energy. Now we want to go further: by 2030 we intend to operate with carbon-free energy everywhere, at all times - adds the CEO of Google - The first step it will be the use of 'carbon-free' energy 24/7 in all our data centers and campuses around the world. This means that every email sent to Gmail, every question asked to the Search Engine, every video seen on YouTube, and every search on Maps to find the best route will use clean energy at any time of any day ".

Google is also committed to investing in technologies that help partners and cities make sustainable choices.

"For example - he explains - we are investing in industrial areas to make 5 gigawatts of new energy available without carbon emissions, to help 500 cities reduce their carbon emissions and to find new ways to help 1 billion people through our products. ".

Google, specifically, has pledged to "help over 500 cities and local governments reduce their carbon emissions by a total of 1 gigaton per year by 2030, the equivalent of the carbon emissions of a country as large as the Japan".

In July, Apple also announced its 'green' turning point, committing itself, again by 2030, to become totally 'carbon free' in all its activities in the production supply chain and in the product life cycle.
