The Corona commissioner postponed the press conference he planned to hold following the summons.
Less than 24 hours before the closure took effect, Prime Minister Netanyahu today (Thursday) urgently called on the Corona commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo.
Reason for the summons: The Prime Minister is considering tightening the restrictions.
Following the summons, Prof. Gamzo postponed the press conference he was scheduled to hold ahead of the entry into force of the second closure tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Gamzo was expected to address restrictions to be imposed in the coming weeks in order to halt the increase in the number of active patients daily and prevent a state of health system collapse.
In recent days, the average daily infection rate is higher than 4,000, and the monthly mortality rate reaches hundreds of deaths.
As of the latest update from the Ministry of Health, the number of corona victims was 1,163 - about 40% of them under the age of 80.
According to a forecast published today by a team of experts from the Hebrew University, in the coming weeks the number of deaths may increase by 1,000 to 2,500 - depending on citizens' compliance with the guidelines and the quality of enforcement of the closure.
