Aldi introduces a change to the bread counter: To reduce packaging waste and protect the environment, there is a novelty at the discounter.
Aldi is
introducing a novelty at the
bread counter
.
This is supposed to save plastic.
It starts in branches of Aldi Süd.
Kassel - It threatens the environment, the oceans and, in the end, people too: plastic waste is a global problem.
In Germany too much is produced and too little is recycled.
That is why sustainability is all the more important.
Now the discounter
Aldi
wants to
save plastic with a novelty.
In the in-house “Backwelt”, Aldi sells
bread
, pretzels and other baked goods in
addition to rolls
.
Here customers serve themselves, choose products and use the bags on display.
At this point, Aldi Süd offers an alternative to the disposable paper and plastic bags.

Aldi Süd relies on sustainable bread bags
In order to reduce packaging waste, the discounter has been selling fabric bread bags since September 7, 2020.
However, the sustainable alternative for
buying
bread
is initially only offered by
Aldi Süd
.
When and whether Aldi Nord will follow with this offer is not yet known.
For the time being, a narrow reusable bag measuring 20 by 50 centimeters is available.
A wide version measuring 25 by 45 centimeters should also be available from November.

Sustainability at Aldi: Reusable bags for bread made from natural fibers
Both
bread bags
can be bought for 99 cents.
The bag does not have to be opened at the checkout.
You can see what is in the fabric bag through a viewing window.
According to
Aldi
, the reusable bags are made of natural fibers and should, among other things, be breathable.
The bag can be closed with a drawstring.
Advantage of the
bread bag
: The bag can be reused with every purchase.
Then it can be washed at 30 degrees.
In addition to Aldi: Lidl also strives for sustainability
Aldi’s competition is also striving for sustainability and avoiding plastic.
As reported by chip.de,
Lidl
has set itself
an ambitious goal.
By 2025, the plastic used for packaging should consist of 100 percent recyclable materials.
