The Higher Committee for University Absorption decided to accept all students who succeeded with a high school diploma in all its branches in Syrian universities and institutes for the 2020-2021 academic year, and their number was 139,588 students, an increase of about 24 thousand from last year.
The committee indicated during its meeting today, headed by Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, that the geographical distribution of students will be taken into consideration, so that the largest part of them will be absorbed in the universities in their governorates to reduce the financial burden on the people.
The committee agreed on the differentiation mechanism that adopted direct registration in the literary branch "general and parallel" and the differentiation in the scientific branch, the approval of the desire for the preparatory year "general and parallel" and the grants allocated in private universities in one preference card, and the adoption of a percentage of parallel education 40 percent to increase the chances of acceptance in public universities and increase The absorptive capacity in some engineering colleges and technical institutes that are related to the labor market and reconstruction.
Eng. Arnous stressed the necessity of harmonizing the university absorption policy with the quality of the educational process and optimal investment of human capital according to a strategic vision based on linking education outputs with the labor market and directing students towards vocational and technical education by providing clear employment paths for its graduates and the necessity of exchanging experiences with friendly countries and increasing exchange opportunities. Cultural, scientific, and motivational measures for graduates, pointing out the need to work to restore the luster of Syrian universities by developing study plans and curricula, focusing on applied aspects, training programs, and updating equipment and laboratories.
The Minister of Higher Education reviewed the measures taken to secure university admission requirements by increasing the number of differentiation centers, securing their requirements, and increasing the period of application to them to prevent overcrowding, taking into account health safety conditions, while increasing the time period for some centers and forming guidance and directing committees for students applying for selection in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students.
The committee stressed the development of a plan to improve the reality of university cities and the services provided to students, create new housing units, increase the number of students applying to vocational high schools, seats allocated to graduates of technical institutes in applied colleges, and develop the education system in them.
