Liguria

the scrutineers flee from the polling stations for fear of Covid contagion.

There are 114 out of 180 tellers that the Municipality of Imperia is replacing due to the waivers arrived at the electoral office in these hours mainly for fear of contracting Covid during the voting and counting operations.

Most of these have already been replaced.

Ten out of 47, on the other hand, are seat presidents all already replaced.

In Genoa, the Municipality has launched a call through Facebook to find tellers and polling presidents ahead of the vote.

To date, the Municipality has counted 855 waivers out of the total number of 2,644 tellers.

The problem of the waivers of tellers and presidents concerns the whole of Liguria.

Also in Spezia, the electoral office of the municipality must replace at least 20 presidents who "have presented medical certificates with the most disparate causes".

From the Municipality of Savona they let it be known that more than half of the scrutineers have given up (for now 244 are distributed among the 61 city seats) and that they are working "to replace some seat presidents".

In

Tuscany

, in Florence 110 seat presidents - nominated by the Court of Appeal for the elections on Sunday and Monday - gave up on a total of 360. All the presidents have been replaced.

The fear of contagion linked to Covid could have weighed on the figure of renunciations, officially due to 'unavailability': in the last regional elections the percentage of renunciations was lower, around 25%.

As for the tellers, 730 out of 1470 people waived: even in this case it is a higher figure than five years ago, when a third of the tellers gave up.

The tellers have already been replaced as explained.

Once the appointment has been received, both the polling presidents and the scrutineers, in case of absence, must give notice in order not to face criminal sanctions.

Same situation in Puglia

.

In Bari, 67% of the presidents appointed by the Court of Appeal for the elections on Sunday and Monday (228 people) and 100% of those nominated for the Covid seats renounced.

The record number of renunciations, officially due to 'unavailability' but probably due to the fear of contagion, exceeds the physiological average of withdrawals which, in the last regional elections, was 40%.

Currently 203 presidents have been replaced with reserves.

For the Covid seats, i.e. the hospital one in the Bari Polyclinic and the three mobile seats that will go to their homes to collect the vote of people in quarantine or in isolation who have requested it, 15 people (including presidents and tellers) have been appointed among the Civil Protection volunteers.

For these 15 a training course was held in the afternoon in the colonnade of the Metropolitan City building with staff from Spesal, but in all cases, they are experts who have already assisted the population during the lockdown.
