(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 18 - "The growth trends in the separate collection of urban waste and the regional estimates on the current recycling rate of urban waste and packaging show the North with a good performance, higher than the national average. These results bring Northern Region to have achieved a 55% recycling share of urban waste in 2019, anticipating the new European target that sets this share to 2025 ".
This was stated by the President of the Foundation for Sustainable Development, Edo Ronchi, presenting a report on urban waste and the circular economy in Northern Italy.
As regards separate waste collection, 9 cities (Treviso, Pordenone, Mantua, Belluno, Trento, Biella, Verbania, Vicenza, Cremona) exceeded 75%, with Treviso reaching 87% and Pordenone, Mantua, Belluno and Trento exceed 80%.
In 6 cities it is less than 50%, with Genoa still at 33%.
The overall growth trends of separate collection of urban waste bring the Northern Regions closer to the recycling targets of urban waste set at European level for 2025, 2030 and 2035. The only Region that records some delays in separate collection and, consequently, in the recycling of urban waste it is Liguria.
The report shows that the average per capita production in the province of northern Italy is 513 kg / inhabitant / year: the most virtuous is the province of Treviso, with a per capita production of less than 400 kg / inhabitant / year.
Production in the capitals is higher: 522 / kg / inhabitant / year.
