Across the Rhine, as in France, the authorities are worried about the latest data from the coronavirus epidemic.
Germany on Saturday recorded its highest daily number of new coronavirus cases since April, with 2,297 new infections, according to the Robert Koch epidemiological watch institute.
This is the highest daily increase in officially reported cases of Covid-19 since April 24, according to the institute.
In total, some 270,070 people have tested positive in Germany since the start of the epidemic, which has killed 9,384 (+6 in 24 hours).
One million tests now, compared to 500,000 five months ago
But Germany, however, performs about twice as many tests per week in September compared to April, with one million tests compared to 500,000 five months ago.
The infection rate stood at 1.16 and 1.21 on Friday over the past seven days, according to the Robert Koch Institute.
North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous region in Germany, and Bavaria are the two Länder most affected by the pandemic, each with around 65,000 officially recorded cases.

The deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Germany prompted Friday the organizers of carnivals in North Rhine-Westphalia to cancel these festivities this year, an institution in the west and south of the country which brings together tens of thousands of people every year.
