Eva Queen: "I understood how to live this life"

2020-09-20T13:10:52.976Z

A little over a year after her first album, the 19-year-old singer wanted to show her evolution with a record that "really looks like" her. Plagued by doubts at the start of her career, she now says she is fulfilled and ready to embark on other projects.

After the success of her first album,

Queen

, released in July 2019, Eva Garnier, 19, known as Eva Queen or more simply “Eva”, returns with

Feed

.

Shaped in her image and by her evolution as a young woman, this second album with rap influences is meant to be calmer and more thoughtful than the previous one.

Seated in a cafe opposite the skytrain in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, she confides in her new life, her difficult start to her career and her future as a businesswoman.

LE FIGARO.

- What conclusions do you draw from your new project three weeks after the release of

Feed

?

I'm glad that made the public understand that I grew up.

I changed my style a bit compared to the first album.

I was a little afraid of the feedback but finally it was validated so I'm very happy.

I used to do much more catchy and dancing songs.

Today I wanted to do something a little more calm because it's my state of mind.

There is a certain nonchalance with me, in my way of expressing myself and of working.

Sometimes I'm asked to articulate more, except if I don't do it in everyday life, I'm not going to change and do it for the music.

How did the album creation process go?

With my team we said to ourselves that we had to start thinking about the second album.

We got down to work but confinement came right then.

I was trying to make music but I couldn't, I wasn't inspired at all.

Then we went back to the studio.

I explained that I wanted to do something that really resembled me, to do more refined songs, others more trap.

I wanted to show my evolution because I have changed a lot since the first project.

Whether it's for the lyrics, the toplines or the prods, we do everything as a team.

But in the end, I have the last word.

We feel that in some songs the influence of rap is never far away (

VTC

,

Poizzz

).

Is this your main inspiration?

I have always loved rap.

But when I started singing I didn't feel legitimate enough to start right away.

Because I am a girl, that I do not come from the streets and that I was very young.

I was still looking for myself artistically and I found myself, no offense to those who do not agree.

Otherwise I take inspiration from everything that works, I try to understand other people's music.

I have thirty zeniths planned.

Eva Queen.

How was the choice of the two collaborations on the record made?

Naza was already present on the first album.

I wanted him to come back because we get along very well and I wanted to do a different track from where we might have expected, which is something festive.

He came to the studio to listen to my album and he immediately wanted to pose on it.

For Alonzo it's a little different.

I was offered to contact him and I immediately accepted.

I listened to him when I was in elementary school, it's a bit like a big brother and I'm very grateful that he accepted.

For the rest I didn't want to do too many featurings so I said:

"We stop there."

You had success and notoriety very young but seem to manage to keep your feet on the ground.

I am well surrounded and I had good examples before me, in particular my sister Jazz who made reality TV.

I think it also plays out a lot on the personality.

If you're someone more prone to going into a spin, it doesn't change much whether you're famous or not.

Since I was little I have never been the one who did stupid things.

Otherwise I still take advantage because it is necessary.

How was your arrival in the world of music?

When I started I was overwhelmed.

I did songs like

Mood

,

On Fleek

and then my album.

It all happened very quickly.

After a few months I fell into a big period of doubts.

I asked myself a lot of questions about myself.

Normally this is the period of your life when you build yourself, but I went from rooster to donkey.

You find yourself in an environment with a lot of people around.

If you want to be princess and behave badly, you can.

But it's very difficult at the same time because you ask yourself:

"Why are we doing this with me?"

So I wanted to stop, to say stop, let me breathe and live my life.

Finally I understood how to live this life and everything is going well.

How important to you are social networks on which you are rather discreet?

I redid my Instagram for the album.

I wanted to show something a lot more mature and fashionable.

Later, I will start posting more personal things, from my travels for example.

Overall I'm not too keen on exposing my privacy, because that's when everyone gets involved and problems arise.

There is the music, but also your partnerships in fashion and makeup, where can we expect you next?

If I can develop myself in fashion I will, it's something that fascinates me.

If I can model or act in a movie I won't hesitate.

I want to do as much as possible to push my goals a little further.

The next step would be to create my own brand of clothing.

Music will remain my first love and will always be a priority.

I have thirty zeniths planned, we are still waiting for the dates to be able to announce them.

After that I will definitely take a break.
