(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 20 SEPTEMBER - US President DonaldTrump said that "most likely" he will choose a woman as Ruth Bader Ginsburg's successor at the Supreme Court.

Donald Trump could meet the eligible candidates to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg as early as next week.

This is reported by the American media citing some sources, according to which the president has three options in mind.

These would be Amy Coney Barrett, Barbara Lagoa and Amul Thapar.

Common to the three is young age, which means they could sit in the Supreme Court for decades.

Catholic and mother of seven, Coney Barrett would be the favorite at the moment. But - according to rumors - the quotations of Lagoa would be increasing given that the judge is of Hispanic origin and this could increase the chances of Trump's re-election. Thapar is close to the Democratic leader in Senato, Mitch McConnell, and Trump could consider him a political asset in Michigan, the state of the judge.

US media, meanwhile, say Trump intends to appoint the new judge - which Democrats are calling for the next president's prerogative - before the duel with White House rival Joe Biden, scheduled for September 29.
