(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 20 - After winning the Golden Lion at the 77th Venice Film Festival, Chloé Zhao's Nomadland, with Frances McDormand in the role of Fern, who as a modern nomad builds a different life in a society in crisis, also wins the 45th edition of the Toronto International Film festival, which assigns its official awards based on the votes of the public.
To dominate this year (both for difiction films and for documentaries) are works signed by filmmakers.
Nomadland by Chloé Zhao (now increasingly launched in the Oscar race) wins the main award, the People's Choice Award.
In second place was another title passed also at the Lido (out of competition), One Night in Miami ... the directorial debut of Regina King and in third the training story Beans by Tracey Deer.
The award for best documentary goes to Michelle Latimer's Inconvenient Indian.
While the TIFF 2020 People's Choice reserved for a film from the MidnightMadness section is won by Shadow in the Cloud by Roseanne Liang.
Among other accolades, the Shawn Mendes FoundationChangemaker Award goes to KellyFyffe-Marshall's short Black Bodies.
