Will Tom Hardy be the new Bond?

2020-09-20T14:56:21.975Z

The last film for the time being with Daniel Craig as secret agent James Bond is not even in the cinema, there are already new rumors about his successor: Tom Hardy is supposed to be 007. Again.

Who knows!

So he's trending again on Twitter: Tom Hardy, 43, an actor from London with a weakness for physically and mentally demanding roles ("The Revenant", "Mad Max: Fury Road," Taboo "), is supposed to succeed Daniel Craig James Bond, the film journalist Emre Kaya claims in his pop culture blog "The Vulcan Reporter" - and asks for trust for the validity of his information, but does not name a source for his insider information.

This did not prevent the name Tom Hardy from trending vehemently on Twitter this weekend, making the betting shops glow - and already enticing many media to spread the rumor.

Us now, of course.

But it's just too seductive!

The speculation about the (or the) new (n) Bond is almost part of the myth of the longest running action franchise in cinema history.

Even if the British MI6 macho with the license to kill comes from the most archaic and sexist cultural times: playing 007 is still considered an accolade for the entertainment industry.

That's why Tom Hardy brought himself into play three years ago.

He thinks it would be really cool to play James Bond under the direction of Kino-Düsentrieb Christopher Nolan, with whom he has already filmed "Inception" and later "Dunkirk".

Well, then nothing came of it, because Daniel Craig, 52, successful current Bond mime, let himself be spread again after all - and to appear in front of the camera for his fifth, but this time really very last 007 mission.

Well, wait and see.

Apparently, Craig himself asked not to aggressively promote the upcoming 25th Bond film as his final appearance on Her Majesty's Secret Service.

"No Time to Die" (German title: "No time to die") was supposed to start in cinemas worldwide in April, but was postponed to November 12th (for the time being) due to the corona pandemic.

In the USA, it is not even expected to start until November 20th.

But why shouldn't Tom Hardy

be

the new Bond?

It's simple: he's already too famous.

Hardy is one of the best and most recognized character actors of his generation, with the indie production "Locke - No Turning Back" a few years ago he proved that he can carry a film all alone if necessary, simply sitting at the wheel of a car - and still it's exciting.

Thanks to his appearances as Batman opponent Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" and as "Venom" in the Marvel comic book adaptation of the same name, you know that you don't even have to see your face to watch Hardy's distinctive game (and his mumbling) detect.

Incidentally, "Venom" is a good keyword: Hardy will also embody the symbiotic monster in a planned second part.

Which does not suggest that he will soon switch to the Bond tuxedo (although it would probably suit him well): Anyone who plays 007 traditionally only has the license for one film franchise.

But even if there is no question that Hardy is the perfect Bond actor: He would be a bit too old at his first Bond appearance, at the very first in two or three years, in his mid-40s.

So far, the Bond producers were looking for lesser-known actors who, at best, would become stars with the prestigious part.

So it was with Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan, less luck were George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton.

According to Craig, the figure will most likely be rejuvenated again, but producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson may also opt for a

Person of Color

for the first time in order to adapt the veteran agent to the zeitgeist and to make it more attractive for a growing, diverse audience do.

However, the two have already ruled out a female Bond actress.

One thing is certain: as long as "No Time to Die" has not successfully completed its worldwide cinema and VOD tour, Wilson and Broccoli will keep a low profile.

As a general rule: Whose name is mentioned has actually already lost.

That should apply to the currently most popular speculative candidates, Idris Elba and Gillian Anderson, as well as to Tom Hardy.

He didn't want to comment on the rumors as early as 2017: As soon as you talk about something like that openly, Hardy said at the time, you are automatically out of the race.
