The city was in the sights of the health authorities.
Lyon will put in place a series of new measures from Tuesday to fight against the coronavirus epidemic, announced the prefect during a press conference on Monday.
According to the director general of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional health agency, the incidence rate in the Rhône has "doubled in three weeks".
In the Rhône, 111 people are in intensive care, and a blank plan could be triggered by the Hospices Civils de Lyon.
Faced with these figures and this "worrying" situation, in the words of the prefect, several prefectural decrees will therefore be taken and will come into force on Tuesday at 6 am.
Limited visits to nursing homes
The first, the reinforcement of the wearing of the compulsory mask in the city of Lyon, extended to the vicinity of sports halls, shows and car parks of shopping centers.
Wearing a mask is also becoming compulsory in ten towns in the region with more than 10,000 inhabitants.

Events bringing together the public are now limited to 1,000 people, against 5,000 according to the previous gauge.
And the prefect encourages people to limit gatherings beyond ten people "in family, friendly and associative circles" in order to "protect the most vulnerable".
Any gathering of more than ten people in public spaces or in establishments open to the public must also be declared to the prefecture.
To avoid regroupings, the sale of alcohol and the consumption of alcohol on the public highway "are prohibited between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.", specified the prefect.
Finally, visits to nursing homes "will be limited to two per week and per resident", in establishments in the Rhône and in the metropolis of Lyon.
