(ANSA-AFP) - GENEVA, 22 SEPT - A record number of two million new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the week from 14 to 20 September (+ 5% compared to the previous week), but the number of deaths dropped by 10 %: this was announced by the World Health Organization.

With the exception of Africa, there has been an increase in cases on all continents.

So far, over 30.6 million cases and 950,000 deaths have been counted worldwide.

"This is the largest weekly increase since the epidemic began - reports the WHO in its bulletin - In the same period of time, however, the number of deaths fell by 10%, with 37,700 registered victims". The Organization's ciphers are based on official data from various countries, which however in many cases risk being incomplete: in different states only serious cases are tested, in others health systems are unable to count all the people infected with the coronavirus. According to the WHO, in Europe there is the strongest increase in victims (+ 27% on the previous week), while the American continent has the primacy of new cases (+ 38%), a significant drop in deaths, -22%. In Africa, the epidemic continues to slow down, with -12% of new cases and -16% of deaths compared to the previous week. (ANSA-AFP).
