What do you do with 15 minutes of free airtime?
The ProSieben presenters Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf used the quarter of an hour for a broadside against RTL.
While at the competitor's "Summer House of the Stars" on Wednesday evening, Joko and Klaas let a pig run through the König gallery in Berlin.
Among other things, one could see how the pig named Paul inspected the lower floors of a bookshelf with a grunt and explored the rooms of the renowned art gallery in the former church of St. Agnes in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Joko Winterscheidt spoke of an "insanely brutal fight" by television stations for audience ratings.
Klaas Heufer-Umlauf said that with the "Summer House of the Stars" RTL was betting on "Assis who spit on and beat up".
As an alternative, ProSieben now wants to show art and culture.
"And if you associate a cute little animal with art and culture, that should be the perfect alternative to RTL at the moment - and actually something that you can offer viewers to score points at ProSieben and take part in this tough battle", said Heufer-Umlauf.
"The Summer House of the Stars" is a reality show in which halfway prominent lovers live in a kind of shared apartment with other celebrity couples.
Finally, socially relevant topics
In the past, the two moderators had taken up socially relevant topics during their broadcast time.
Only last week did they highlight the situation at the EU's external borders.
In the mini-documentary "A Short Story Of Moria" a migrant described the adverse conditions under which he came to Europe on the Mediterranean Sea and the unworthy conditions he encountered.
The young man told of the catastrophic conditions in the Moria camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, which has since been destroyed in a fire.
RTL is not the first time the two moderators have targeted.
In May, they used the airtime they had gained to broadcast a live special on RTL and comment on it.
In doing so, they called themselves "odds multipliers".
The background to the "free" airtime is the show "Joko & Klaas against ProSieben", in which the two compete against their employer in several competitions and can earn 15 live minutes at prime airtime.
ProSieben advertises that the broadcaster has no knowledge of the quarter-hour program, which the two presenters christened "Joko & Klaas live".
