The data are revealed: the corona crisis has led to a dramatic decrease in the number of hotel stays in Israel and an almost complete decrease in the number of foreign tourists who have arrived in hotels in Israel.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the total number of overnight stays in hotels in Israel in March was only 700,000, compared with 2.1 million in the corresponding period last year.

Following the closure of the spring period in April and May, hotels in Israel were almost completely closed and the number of overnight stays was almost nil.

With the opening of hotels in June, just before Shavuot, there was a gradual increase in the number of bookings and overnight stays in hotels in Israel.

June data are similar to those recorded in March this year with 700,000 million person-nights.

In July, there was a significant increase of about half a million person-nights more than in June, and in August there was a record number of person-nights in hotels in Israel with almost 2 million person-nights.

Of all hotel stays, 99% were Israeli.

The highest occupancy was recorded in Eilat with 86% compared to one percent less in the same period last year.

These days, hotels in Israel are closed and it is unclear when they will receive the permit to reopen.

Many chains in Israel announce that they are considering opening the hotels only for Passover next year.
