This is what is stated in a note from the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, where the former rider has been hospitalized since 24 July, following the dramatic accident on 19 June aboard his handbike near Siena.
Alex Zanardi "is facing a path of sub-intensive care", has "started a further surgical path aimed at craniofacial reconstruction" and "has been undergoing cognitive and motor rehabilitation sessions for several days".
"The IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan - reads the bulletin - informs that Mr. Alex Zanardi, hospitalized since July 24th, is undergoing a sub-intensive care course, prepared by a multidisciplinary team coordinated by professors Luigi Beretta, director of Neuroreanimation, Mario Bussi, director of Otolaryngology, Sandro Iannaccone, director of Neurorehabilitation, and Pietro Mortini, director of Neurosurgery ".
As the note informs, "at the same time, a further surgical path aimed at craniofacial reconstruction began. A first surgery was already successfully performed, a few days ago, by Professor Mario Bussi and a second surgery is already planned for the next few weeks. which will be performed by Professor Pietro Mortini. Furthermore - the press release continues - for several days Alex Zanardi has undergone cognitive and motor rehabilitation sessions, with the administration of visual and acoustic stimuli, to which the patient responds with transient and initial signs of interaction with the environment ".
