The battle for Ben Gurion Airport:

In the shadow of the general closure that is expected to begin tomorrow and the fear of thousands of Israelis who have already booked vacations abroad, it appears that Ben Gurion Airport will not be closed from next week and the flights on the board departed as usual.

Today (Thursday) the decision on the issue is expected to be made.

The decision whether to close Ben Gurion Airport as early as tomorrow for outbound flights is expected to be postponed, according to senior officials.

It appears that Ben Gurion Airport will continue to operate in the current format of outbound and inbound flights next week as well, but no flights beyond those embedded in the flight schedule will be added.

Dozens of flights to Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, the United States, Turkey and other destinations are expected to depart next week.

Travel agencies are reporting attacks on airline tickets and attempts by many customers to get a flight today and tomorrow.

On the other hand, there is a 60% increase in requests to cancel or change a flight due to the confusion created.

The official decision is expected to be made in the afternoon, and the travel agencies estimate that if next week flights depart as usual, the planes will be completely full in Israel who will prefer to spend the days of closure abroad.

The apparent decision follows an understanding by Transportation Minister Miri Regev that the closure of Ben Gurion Airport is not similar to the closure of most of the economy and its closure with 36 hours' notice could have very significant consequences, including temporary cessation of activity by foreign airlines in Israel. .

In a conversation with officials involved in making the decision, they explain that the decision to close Ben Gurion Airport stems mainly from the fear that Israelis will have to travel to Ben Gurion Airport, thus opening up additional demands from other sectors as a plane ticket will allow traffic while the rest of the country is closed.
