A snorkeler was attacked by a crocodile on the Great Barrier Reef off Australia, which is famous for its coral diversity.

The 33-year-old man was flown to a hospital with bite wounds on his head and neck, said an official.

According to local media reports, the man's injuries are not life threatening.

The aggressive reptile was probably a two-meter-long saltwater crocodile.

The incident reportedly took place off Lizard Island - the island is surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef and a popular destination for snorkelers and divers.

However, it is also known as "crocodile land", warned the official.

You have to be careful when swimming in the water.
