The family was on a snorkeling trip in the Florida Keys. When a three meter long shark attacked her husband, Margot Dukes-Eddy did not hesitate long.

Andrew Charles Eddy had only just stepped into the water when the accident occurred.

In Florida, a woman presumably saved her husband from worse during a shark attack.

As reported by the British BBC, among others, the incident happened on Sunday on the Sombrero Reef in the Florida Keys.

The area is located in the very south of the state and is known for white beaches and an impressive underwater world.

Andrew Charles Eddy and Margot Dukes-Eddy wanted to take a closer look at them with their family on a snorkeling trip.

You were traveling in a privately borrowed boat.

According to police, the shark attacked Andrew Charles Eddy, seriously injuring his shoulder.

The authorities said that his pregnant wife saw the shark fin and the blood and immediately jumped into the water from the boat.

Then she took him to safety while other family members made an emergency call.

Eddy was flown to Miami by helicopter, where he will need treatment for a while because of his serious injuries.

Upon arrival, Eddy's condition was critical, the hospital said.

Numerous fatal attacks in Australia

Witnesses reported a shark between two and a half to three meters in length nearby.

It was probably a bull shark.

Animals of this species do not grow as big as tiger sharks or great white sharks, but are still involved in attacks on people.

In 2019 alone, 21 shark attacks were recorded in Florida.

That was almost half of all attacks in the entire United States (41).

In general, however, the risk of being attacked by the predatory fish is negligible.

Every year, on average, more people die from lightning strikes than from a shark bite.

Most of the fatal attacks so far this year have occurred in Australia.

Seven people had died there after attacks, the most recent attack occurred in the Gold Coast holiday area in the very south of Queensland.
