London has a problem.

Because the streets are full of people partying and drinking late at night - because the pubs are then closed.

They are only allowed to open until 10 p.m. since Prime Minister Boris Johnson issued new corona restrictions this week.

In addition, it is only allowed to serve at the table, the previously lax mask requirement in shops is now prescribed by law.

Johnson wants to do something against the rapidly increasing number of infections in the country.

A few days ago, British scientists warned of 50,000 new infections per day until mid-October if the current trend continues.

"

We already had four visits to our stores this evening. We have ten branches in London. Everyone was told that we were no longer allowed to serve between 9:00 pm and 9:30 pm. Compared to a few weeks ago, that is 137 of our busiest hours who are just gone. We estimate about a third of our income will be missing.

"

Together with a business partner, Jackson runs a number of bars that comply with Covid guidelines - and now have to close earlier.

We know what Prohibition does. People want to drink and want to do something and spend time together. So by creating this prohibition situation, you drive people out of the stores that adhere to Covid guidelines. Stores, where professionals work who know how to steer groups of people, how to keep people apart. Now you send people out and home, where there is no control, nobody is paying attention.

"

According to a recent poll, 32 percent think Johnson’s measures are just right.

Far more, 45 percent, however, the measures do not go far enough.

I understand that public opinion largely supports curfew. But I don't think people really understand that in six months' time many of their favorite bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes could be broke.

"

The UK Treasury announced further government aid for employers and employees.

With almost 42,000 dead, Great Britain is the country with the most corona victims in Europe to date.
