In 2021 Jan Hofer will no longer appear in the "Tagesschau".
After 16 years as chief spokesman, the 70-year-old is ending his career.
This was announced by the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) responsible for the ARD news program.
Hofer's successor will be Jens Riewa, who has been working for the "Tagesschau" since 1991 and has regularly presented the most important issue of the day at 8 p.m. for more than 25 years.
"The overwhelming success of the" Tagesschau "would be inconceivable without Jan Hofer," NDR director Joachim Knuth is quoted in the message: "For decades he was the face and voice for serious news in Germany. We owe him a lot. "
For ARD, Hofer not only worked on the "Tagesschau", but also as a presenter, for example on the "Riverboat Talkshow".
It had long been known that Hofer's contract would expire at the end of the year - but he had so far left it open whether he would continue.
In addition to the change in the post of chief spokesman, ARD announced that Julia-Niharika Sen and Constantin Schreiber will also be presenting the 8 p.m. edition of the news program as spokespersons.
