At least two people are said to have been injured with a knife in the incident on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services arrested two suspects.

The two victims are said to have sustained serious injuries, but their lives are not in danger.

According to SPIEGEL information, these are two young employees from the Premières Lignes press agency, which is based in the same building as "Charlie Hebdo" once did.

The two journalists took to the streets late that morning for a cigarette break, and the attack took place shortly afterwards, reportedly with a machete.

The streets around the attack site were cordoned off, shops and restaurants and two metro stations were closed.

Thousands of students in five schools were not allowed to leave the building.

The anti-terrorist prosecutor took over the investigation.

The terrorist network Al-Qaeda had previously threatened an attack - because "Charlie Hebdo" had republished its Mohammed cartoons.

In the attack on the satirical magazine in January 2015, two Islamists murdered twelve people in cold blood, including some of France's best-known cartoonists.

The trial against possible backers is currently underway in Paris, with eleven defendants on trial.

For example, they are said to have obtained weapons or provided accommodation.

Most face prison sentences of up to 20 years.
