Viggo Mortensen is also an attractive director

His well-deserved stardom has not prevented this man from interpreting very small production projects in which he believed

I frequently watch the tense and romantic

Sole Witness

, a movie that I adore and not only because of its famous and beautiful dance in the barn.

It is the first time I have seen the face of a very young Viggo Mortensen on a screen.

It had no phrase, but it did have good vibes, charm, presence.

And just as I would pay money not to find certain actors and actresses specialized in devious psychologism in the movies (I don't dispute their talent, but they almost always tense me), there are others who have a magnet for my tastes, who I believe them, with whom I feel comfortable.

Mortensen belongs to that group.

There is something very clean, bright and attractive about it, it lends itself to the epic, although it can also be scary, be violent to volcanic limits.

You can see it in his excellent and disturbing performances in

Eastern Promises

and

A History of Violence.

Or with the brave, tough and beaten

Alatriste

.

  • Viggo Mortensen: "The first thing I think about when I wake up is death"

  • The explorer rescued by Viggo Mortensen

  • Viggo Mortensen becomes a member of Òmnium Cultural

His well-deserved stardom has not prevented this man from interpreting very small production projects in which he believed.

Or stand behind the camera (and also in front, to sell the film) in

Falling

, telling a family story dominated by gloom, mixed feelings, the aggressive mental hell due to Alzheimer's (although before the disease that authoritarian, cruel guy and disdainful he must also have been a bad creature) of a man to whom his long-suffering son, his boyfriend, and his daughter try in vain to offer him a physical and sentimental refuge.

It is an intense film, well told, thought and felt, which delves into painful sensations, the weight of memories and the complexity of feelings.

Mortensen's performance, as always, is credible.

And the deranged and brutal old man Lance Henriksen embodies is scary and compassionate.

And it's always a pleasure to see that formidable actress Laura Linney, even if only in a brief appearance.

He also suffers from that devastating and progressive mental and physical illness —which makes you forget yourself and those around you, your memory and your feelings, which ends up transforming you into a vegetable— one of the two protagonists of

Supernova

.

He can still feel love for the devoted boyfriend he has been with for thirty years and rapt at the stars.

But he knows that he is lost, that everything will get worse, that the tunnel will be endless.

And with your partner you will take one last trip in a motorhome to places where you once lived the splendor in the grass, you will visit loved ones, your anguish and your fear will be told, you will have a fear of the overwhelming loneliness that awaits you.

And the patient will make a decision as logical as it is heartbreaking.

It is directed with impeccable neatness by Harry Macqueen.

And it is played by two actors as good as the American Stanley Tucci and the English Colin Firth.

The characters do not stop talking and what they say is very careful.

One is a writer and the other a pianist, they are very cool, as the Minister of Equality would say.

The theme is supposed to be shocking and poetic, with the ability to stir your heartstrings and make you cry.

I recognize the emotional power of what they narrate.

But I can't get into the characters.

They don't make me fall in love, I see it from the outside, with a certain coldness, although what I observe and hear should move me.

The problem may be mine and not from the movie.

And, please, that the fucking time help to die placidly those wretches with their bodies or souls in a ruinous state who no longer want to and cannot continue here.
