Exhibition, conferences and publications ... Forced to postpone the opening of the museum dedicated to the Empress, the castle has imagined a "season" with different events.

Damn Covid-19!

Without him, the Château de Compiègne could have reopened the Empress Eugenie Museum with a new set design.

Time suspended in March and April, we will have to wait until 2021. Until then, and as an appetizer, Compiègne has imagined a sort of Eugenie season, in which an exhibition of dresses, publications and conferences.

In the ballroom, which served as a dining room under the Second Empire on special occasions, around ten imperial outfits are currently on display.

It does not seem like much, because Eugenie changed several times a day.

But these pieces are rarities because the textile is inherently fragile.

Moreover, all the ballroom toilets, in tulle and silk muslin, have disappeared, burnt down by time.

"They were never worn twice, and tradition wanted the Empress to give them to those around her, who sometimes had them recut"

, explains Laure Chabanne, director of the Museum.
