The first autumn weekend in Germany is showing itself with fresh temperatures and rain - in some places it is already looking wintry. In the Alps, some passes are closed.

Rain, temperatures around 15 degrees, here and there even snow: Germany is experiencing its first autumn weekend.

In the Upper Black Forest, the first flakes fell on the Feldberg on Saturday, as a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) said.

The snow line was between 1000 and 1200 meters.

The winter landscape is not of long duration: the thin layer of snow should melt on Sunday at the latest.

It also turned white on the 1215 meter high Fichtelberg in the Saxon Ore Mountains.

"The station reported snowfall in the morning," said a DWD spokesman.

On the relatively warm ground and with an air temperature of 0.5 degrees, however, only a little snow remained there.

The white splendor on Germany's highest mountain should prove to be a little more permanent.

"On the Zugspitze there was about 55 centimeters of fresh snow in the last 24 hours," said the weather service.

According to the information, there are about 70 centimeters of snow on the mountain (2962 meters).

Across Germany, it will remain mostly overcast even on Sunday - with maximum temperatures of 8 to 15 degrees, in the north 19 degrees are possible.

On Monday, too, it should continue to be uncomfortable and sometimes wet.

Meanwhile, it got really wintry in Switzerland and Austria.

In Montana in Valais, about 25 centimeters of snow fell - a record for this time of the year, as the weather service SRF Meteo tweeted on Saturday along with a photo of a snowman.

In Davos in Graubünden there was 26 centimeters of snow.

Many roads in the mountains were covered with snow and several passes were therefore closed, including the Great Saint Bernard Pass at 2469 meters, where 18 degrees were measured last weekend.

In Austria the snow reached into many valleys on Saturday.

At the Bischofshofen weather station at a height of 550 meters, two centimeters of fresh snow had been measured, reported the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics.
