'For Italy at risk of medals in Tokyo. Spadafora reply: 'In my opinion he has not read the law' (ANSA)

The IOC rejects the sport reform law, under discussion in recent days.

"We are very worried about the situation and the functioning of Coni. We have written a letter to the Minister of Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, because we see that with this law Coni does not comply with the Olympic Charter", said IOC president Thomas Bach.

There is also concern about the delay in the preparation of Italian athletes for the Tokyo Olympics which may mean less chance of medals for Italy ".

Spadafora: "Bach? In my opinion he didn't read the law"

 - "Bach is in an unusual and uninstitutional way talking about a draft law that frankly I find it hard to believe he personally read". This is the harsh reply of the minister of sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, to the statements of the IOC president, Thomas Bach, regarding the sports reform text. "If, on the other hand, this is the case, please indicate with absolute clarity in which points the draft does not respect the Olympic Charter - continues the minister -, or avoid dragging the IOC into a debate that is not very edifying for such an important institution". "The Consolidated Act instead, as punctually written in the letter that was sent to the IOC in recent weeks, addresses and positively resolves some of the issues raised by Bach - underlines Spadafora -. It is ridiculous to argue that the reform can affect the preparation of Italian athletes. and on their chances of winning in Tokyo, a phrase that offends Italy and its great athletes. I will ask Bach to account for these words and all his statements in a letter that I will send him tomorrow. In the meantime I reassure him about the preparations for Milan-Cortina 2026 who are proceeding well as both the President of Coni and the President of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Foundation, who are the same person, can confirm to him: perhaps in this case he could recognize some form of conflict of interest, also in light of news emerged today from the press ". "On the other hand, I agree that there are no conditions at the moment for any meeting, which was absolutely not foreseen either on October 15 or on any other date", concluded the minister.
