Between cover and closure: This is what Yom Kippur in Israel used to look like
Atonement ceremonies during the austerity period in 1952, the holiday prayer in the Cave of the Patriarchs, a rooster market in 1970 and even a flood that fell with the beginning of the fall of 1965 - rare photographs of Israel and Slichot are now revealed courtesy of the Israeli Film Archive of the Jerusalem Cinematheque.

Thousands of rare archive footage from Israel's history are now being exposed and made available to the public courtesy of the Israeli Film Archive of the Jerusalem Cinematheque, which has launched an innovative website that allows you to watch Israeli cinema for generations and wander our filmed history as documented in news journals Onwards.
The historical materials have undergone in-depth research and mapping in order to allow surfers from all over the world to search and locate films from our general and personal history: search for segments by years or by landmarks on an interactive map, and by 7,000 topics, 4,000 personalities and more, all free in Hebrew and English.
We chose to be "thrown" back decades, to the Yom Kippur events of the 50's, 60's and 70's, to the village ceremonies with chickens (which are good that disappeared in their old format), to the holiday prayers in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, to shopping in the market Mea Shearim in Jerusalem and even to a great flood that fell in Tel Aviv with the arrival of autumn on the holiday of 1965.

Atonement during the austerity period, 1952
At the atonement stand pay 50 pennies and turn chickens over the heads of the believers in front of an audience.

One Hundred Gates Between Cover and Decade, 1970
During the ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem, residents are busy making arrangements for the holidays: a woman returning home with a rooster of atonement, consumers shopping in the market, men making wooden boards for the sukkah and a tailor sewing holiday clothes.

Yom Kippur prayers in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, 1968
Jewish worshipers gather outside the tombs of Sarah and Abraham and hold Yom Kippur prayers in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron.
In light of the opposition of Muslim religious leaders to the prayers of Jews in the cave, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan visited the site.
The minister informed the clergy and the mayor of Hebron, that according to the decision of the Israeli government, more Jews should pray there.

Rains and Floods on Yom Kippur, 1965
Unusually for the season, heavy rains fell across the country on Yom Kippur 1965, causing flooding and flooding.
