Corona: This is how people's attitudes changed in the pandemic

We have been living with the coronavirus for half a year. How has people's attitudes towards the pandemic changed? A cross-border survey provides surprising answers.

In September, 45 percent of Germans said they were at least one meter away from other people.

In April it was 59 percent.

The lives of people in Europe have changed radically since March, but many have now arrived in the new Corona everyday life.

As the pandemic progressed, so too did people's fears, confidence, awareness of rules and their own risk.

Under the direction of the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE), more than 7,000 people in Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Great Britain were interviewed on various topics in April, June and September, from hand washing to vaccination readiness to fans at soccer games.

Five observations at a glance:

1. The risk of infection increases - but wash your hands?

When the coronavirus reached Germany in the spring and people started to keep their distance and wash their hands thoroughly, the flu wave ended abruptly.

It was an involuntary experiment that showed how reliably simple measures can protect against infection.

With winter approaching, it would be important to keep following the rules.

But the people in Germany seem to be losing interest in it.
