The commemorative stamp of General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa was issued on the exact occasion of the centenary of his birth.

The stamp, valid for ordinary mail, shows a portrait of the general in a glimpse of Saluzzo (Cuneo), the birthplace of Dalla Chiesa: you can see the Ancient Town Hall and the adjacent Civic Tower.

The bulletin illustrating the issue is signed by the mayor of Saluzzo, Mauro Calderoni, and by the general's son, Nando Dalla Chiesa.

It reminds you of the sacrifice of this servant of the state: '' on 3 September 1982, a few months after returning to Sicily, while trying to honor without powers his challenge to the service of the Italian state and people, he was assassinated by a mafia commando in Via Carini in Palermo;

his wife Emanuela Setti Carraro and escort agent Domenico Russo died together with him ''.

A sentence by Dalla Chiesa is also recalled, reported on the monument which is scheduled to be inaugurated in Saluzzo: "if it is true that there is a power, this power is only that of the State, its institutions and its laws; we cannot besides delegating this power neither to the abusers, nor to the bullies, nor to the dishonest ".

Minister Guerini: 'From the Church he never lowered his gaze'

 - "We are here to commemorate the birth of a man of the state, of a man who sacrificed his life for the institutions, of a carabiniere who honored his uniform ".

With these words the defense minister, Lorenzo Guerini, today recalled the figure of the general of the carabinieri Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa in Saluzzo (Cuneo) 100 years after his birth.

"We are here - he added - to keep his example alive and pass it on over time. During his military life, General Dalla Chiesa demonstrated many virtues, but what made him unique was probably his innate ability to add to the rigor of the uniform intelligence of intuition and investigative innovation. He never lowered his gaze, giving exceptional proof of courage and fidelity to the values of democracy, putting the common good before any other interest. From that tragic September 3, 1982, the imprint and the memory of the general have remained etched in the hearts of all, of the citizens who look to his example with a spirit of emulation and admiration, of those who act daily in defense of freedom, civil coexistence and justice. In the heart of the Carabinieri, who from his extraordinary work they inherited an investigative method that has become a reference ".

General Dalla Chiesa remembers in Saluzzo

 - A monument to Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa was inaugurated today in Saluzzo (Cuneo), the Piedmontese city where the general was born a hundred years ago.

The ceremony, which was attended by the defense minister, Lorenzo Guerini, took place in Piazza Garibaldi.

The work is a totem in stone, glass and steel four meters high and was created by six artists from Saluzzo: Ugo Giletta, Alessia Clema, Guido Palmero, Lorenzo Griotti, Franco Giletta and Anna Panacci Valla.

From the Church he was born in Saluzzo on September 27, 1920. The family was originally from Parma but his father, Romeo dalla Chiesa, carabiniere, was stationed at the Arma station in Saluzzo.

At the inauguration of the monument were present, in addition to the minister, the commander general of the Carabinieri Giovanni Nistri, the son of Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa, Nando, the president of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the mayor of Parma Federico Pizzarotti, the Vice President of the Province of Cuneo Flavio Manavella.

Commander Nistri recalled that, although in each barracks there must be a photograph of the President of the Republic and the commander of the Arma, "there is often also an image of General Dalla Chiesa because his teaching and his moral integrity are a example for all of us carabinieri ".

"In recent months - said Nando Dalla Chiesa - I was able to consult some documents exchanged between my father, then commander of the Palermo Carabinieri Legion, and the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission. And I was able to understand how particular attention was paid to my words. father and his documents signed with that green fountain pen that I still remember on his desk. His signature, so minute but neat, leads me to highlight the value of the signature of each of us, of the tens of thousands of signatures that every day we affix on the documents. The weight of our name, with the signature, certifies the reality, and the certification of the true, and not the false, represents our commitment daily fight against all falsehoods, all abuses, all mafia ".
