Tension headache

Pain caused by tension in the muscles of the shoulders, neck, skull and jaw and is often associated with stress, depression or anxiety.

This pain can be caused after sitting for long hours at work, not being careful about hours and quality of sleep, irregular / balanced meals or consuming an increased amount of alcohol.

Especially during this period, of lack of control over the situation and uncertainty, we may suffer from the effects of increasing and persistent stress.

One of the physical manifestations of such stress is a headache.

Studies show a link between stress and headaches.

In one study, which examined the effect of stress on headaches, it was found that stress triggers a headache and that an offensive / one-time headache can develop into a chronic headache.

This headache may be mild to moderate and appear on both sides of the head, a feeling of pressure as a "half" belt on the forehead.

The incidence of pain varies and may occur with moderate frequency when repeated several times a week / month and with a frequency of more than fifteen days each month, lasting between half an hour and a week.

When the pains appear with a frequency of fifteen days a month or more, for several consecutive months, they are defined as chronic pains, and treated accordingly.

How to treat:

These headaches can also be relieved with over-the-counter medications, based on active ingredients such as ibuprofen (Advil and other brands), acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin and its brands), or acetaminophen (paracetamol and the like).

It should be noted that most pain sufferers will prefer the drug that works the fastest and allows them to continue to manage their lives without the pain.

A combination of medication and lifestyle changes will be even more effective: eating right, regular and regular exercise, adequate and quality sleep, avoiding smoking and alcohol.

At the same time it is advisable to identify and treat the causes of stress in order to prevent the recurrence of pain.

Some people will resort to alternative treatment methods, such as meditation, and gentle stretching of the neck or a treatment that combines hot compresses and hot showers as well as other sedation methods.

When all these do not help, seek the help of a family doctor.

The incidence of pain varies.

migraine

Medium to severe headache, unilateral in the face in nature, which may appear as throbbing waves, often accompanied by nausea, sometimes to the point of vomiting as well as sensitivity to light and sounds.

In the absence of treatment, such seizures last between four hours and three days.

These pains disrupt the daily activity of the sufferer (more common in women by the way).

How to treat:

Migraine treatment includes a recommendation to rest in a quiet, dark room, hot or cold compresses for the head and neck, over-the-counter medications based on active ingredients such as ibuprofen (Advil Forte and others), acetaminophen, dipyrone (Optalgin) or medications that combine several active ingredients.

Treatment can be started immediately with these over-the-counter medications, but if that does not help, consult a doctor to get prescription medications designed to treat acute migraines or migraine prevention medications (in patients with chronic migraines).

Cluster headaches

A headache that starts and develops quickly and becomes especially intense within minutes.

The pain tends to develop at regular hours of the day or night and during periods of seizures may also appear several times a day.

This type of pain is actually more common in men.

Usually, it will affect only one side of the head, behind the eye.

At the same time, this eye may tear or turn red.

The pain is sometimes accompanied by a feeling of restlessness and lasts between a quarter of an hour and three hours.

Method of treatment: The

treatment is given in a clinic, as the speed of development of this pain requires rapid treatment and the nature of the treatment is with drugs by injection or nasal spray from the triptan group or pure oxygen breathing using a mask.

Causes restlessness.

Toothache / jaw pain

Headaches resulting from toothache, which can also be caused by jaw joint disorders or gnashing of teeth.

While gnashing of teeth is usually done at night, the disorders in the jaw joint are due to the joints located just in front of the ear, between the jaw and the skull.

These disorders can be caused by poor alignment of the jaw, tension, poor posture, arthritis or erosion of cartilage, muscles and ligaments in the jaw.

How to treat: The

dentist / oral and maxillofacial specialist can help diagnose the different types of headaches from a source of teeth / jaw.

If it is a pain resulting from dental problems it may offer relevant dental treatment and if there is pain from the jaw joints, the treatment may include jaw stretching exercises, bite retaining splints or stress reduction alternatives.

Extremely sharp and sharp headaches

It is a headache that awakens from sleep, pain in children, the elderly and pain of a new nature or one that does not respond to treatment that has previously helped. It should be borne in mind that not all headaches require medical intervention - and yet, sometimes the pain is a warning sign that warns of a more serious phenomenon.

How to treat:

Consult a doctor / seek immediate help when the pain appears after a head injury, or if it is accompanied by a neck congestion, fever, confusion, changes in consciousness or intense and unfamiliar pain in the eye or ear.
