Donald Trump has just formalized the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett to the post of judge of the American Supreme Court.
She replaces Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a fervent democrat and feminist who died in mid-September 2020.
This appointment places the institution heavily on the conservative side.
Of the nine judges, only three are democratic.
Relatively little known, Amy Coney Barrett is a devout Catholic, opposed by personal conviction to abortion.
The choice of a personality of this type could galvanize the conservative religious electorate on which Donald Trump relies for re-election.
