After the increase in the number of corona cases in Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia as a result of a family celebration, around 1,700 people are now in quarantine there.
Among them are 1,100 students and teachers whose quarantine is directly related to the celebration, said a spokesman for SPIEGEL.
Ten schools are affected.
The increase in the number of cases caused a large rush at an urban drive-in test station on Monday.
At noon, the city asked citizens not to visit the station that day.
"The test center is overrun, and the traffic is already backing up," it said in a message.
A spokesman told SPIEGEL that the celebration was a birthday in a private apartment.
Guests came and went all day long, so there are now a high number of people affected.
In the city of 334,000, there were 130 infected people on Monday, according to an estimate by the State Health Center in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the RKI, 16.8 people per 100,000 inhabitants have been infected with the virus in the past seven days.
From a value of 35, the authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia must take special countermeasures to contain them.
Most recently, a major wedding in Hamm caused a stir.
As a result of the celebration, almost 2,800 people are in quarantine in the city, 230 are acutely infected.
The city's mayor, Thomas Hunsteger-Petermann (CDU), told SPIEGEL: "Such events are simply not up to date at the moment."
